I have tried Tavacı Recep Usta in different cities before, but the Izmir branch is by far the gem and the best experience I have ever had. From the moment you step inside, everything feels elegant and thoughtfully curated. The interior decoration is refined and tasteful, and the waiters, all wearing perfectly ironed white uniforms, create an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and genuinely special. You immediately sense that this is not just a meal, but a complete dining experience. In Izmir, you can clearly see why this restaurant has received Michelin plaquettes three times in a row. The food truly reflects a deep respect for tradition and craftsmanship. The quality of the meat, the balance of flavors, and the precision in cooking are outstanding. Knowing that the restaurant is named after a master from Diyarbakır makes perfect sense once you taste the dishes—there is real expertise behind every plate. We tried the tava dish prepared on a flat pan, where the meat is beautifully caramelized together with carefully selected vegetables. The version with garlic and onion was absolutely delicious, rich, and perfectly balanced. We also had the lamb dish served with bulgur rice, which was incredibly flavorful and comforting, cooked to perfection. One detail I especially appreciated was the nostalgia corridor. Walking through a passage decorated with newspaper articles as wall tapestries adds a strong sense of history and authenticity. Even the laboratory areas visible along the way are impressively clean and well maintained, reinforcing the feeling of trust and quality throughout the entire place. All in all, Tavacı Recep Usta Izmir offers an exceptional dining experience that combines elegance, tradition, and outstanding taste. I will definitely be coming back, and for anyone visiting for the first time, I highly recommend starting with the tava dishes—you won’t regret it.
Beautiful food and the warmest Turkish hospitality! The lamb was unforgettable, so tender it melts in your mouth. The restaurant has such a lovely vibe, especially around golden hour. We walked in on a Sunday evening without a reservation and were seated with no problem. Just a heads up, the menu doesn’t show prices. P.S.: The picture shows Recep Usta Sarma Kebab, which also extremly savory
The food was of excellent quality while also being very authentic. The servers gave great service while also suggesting superb recommendations from the menu. I recommend the slow cooked lamb shank with rice. The lamb was tender and juicy while the rice was flavorful and moist.
Very good and spacious place. It just made me nervous that there was no price in the menu I got. In the end I paid 30 Euros for a main dish plus several side dishes.
I had a great experience overall. The Stuffed Rib (Kaburga Dolma) was excellent, tender, and full of flavor. The only downside was the bulgur pilaf, which was a bit too oily for my taste. On the plus side, the Çiğ Köfte and İçli Köfte were both outstanding, and the stuffed eggplant with meat was absolutely phenomenal. Definitely worth visiting for the main dishes.
